Artra Rice is a dedicated EveryLibrary supporter. Whether it’s for free community resources, a local space for events, or simply checking out a book—libraries have always been there for her. Read her story below about why she stands by the tagline "Love EveryLibrary."

The organization EveryLibrary is essential because of its funding initiatives. EveryLibrary strives to bring awareness to the lack of funding for many libraries in local communities nationwide. This is especially significant to me because I grew up on the north side of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The library was not just a building—it was a sanctuary. It was where I would wait to catch the city bus, warming up before continuing my journey to school or the barbershop where my mom cut hair. It was also where I discovered my love for reading, spending hours lost in the pages of books.
Additionally, my dad and I spent quality time together in libraries, reading about historical figures like Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King Jr. While libraries house countless books, they are also a treasure trove of knowledge and resources. They are not just a place to stay warm—they are a beacon of education. Some libraries help students complete their high school education, providing a path to a brighter future. Others even serve as passport offices, offering essential services to those who may not have access to them elsewhere.
Many libraries, like the one off 46th Street North where my dad and I used to stop in, are more than just buildings. They are memory hubs, preserving the stories and experiences of our communities. EveryLibrary plays a crucial role in sustaining these spaces, ensuring that libraries in need continue to serve and uplift the people who rely on them.
Libraries are more than just buildings—they are vital community spaces that provide access to education, resources, and opportunities. EveryLibrary works to ensure that these essential spaces remain open and fully funded, but they can’t do it alone.
